Pembaharuan oleh Asa
15:1 Azarya bin Oded dihinggapi Roh Allah. 15:2 Ia pergi menemui Asa dan berkata kepadanya: "Dengarlah kepadaku, Asa dan seluruh Yehuda dan Benyamin! TUHAN beserta dengan kamu bilamana kamu beserta dengan Dia. Bilamana kamu mencari-Nya, Ia berkenan ditemui olehmu, tetapi bilamana kamu meninggalkan-Nya, kamu akan ditinggalkan-Nya. 15:3 Lama sekali Israel tanpa Allah yang benar, tanpa ajaran dari pada imam dan tanpa hukum. 15:4 Tetapi dalam kesesakan mereka berbalik kepada TUHAN, Allah orang Israel. Mereka mencari-Nya, dan Ia berkenan ditemui oleh mereka. 15:5 Pada zaman itu tidak dapat orang pergi dan pulang dengan selamat, karena terdapat kekacauan yang besar di antara segenap penduduk daerah-daerah. 15:6 Bangsa menghancurkan bangsa, kota menghancurkan kota, karena Allah mengacaukan mereka dengan berbagai-bagai kesesakan. 15:7 Tetapi kamu ini, kuatkanlah hatimu, jangan lemah semangatmu, karena ada upah bagi usahamu!" 15:8 Ketika Asa mendengar perkataan nubuat yang diucapkan oleh nabi Azarya bin Oded itu, ia menguatkan hatinya dan menyingkirkan dewa-dewa kejijikan dari seluruh tanah Yehuda dan Benyamin dan dari kota-kota yang direbutnya di pegunungan Efraim. Ia membaharui mezbah TUHAN yang ada di depan balai Bait Suci TUHAN. 15:9 Ia mengumpulkan seluruh Yehuda dan Benyamin dan orang-orang Efraim, Manasye dan Simeon yang tinggal di antara mereka sebagai orang asing. Sebab dari Israel banyak yang menyeberang memihak kepadanya ketika mereka melihat bahwa TUHAN, Allahnya, beserta dengan dia. 15:10 Mereka berkumpul di Yerusalem pada bulan ketiga tahun kelima belas dari pemerintahan Asa. 15:11 Pada hari itu mereka mempersembahkan kepada TUHAN tujuh ratus lembu sapi dan tujuh ribu kambing domba dari jarahan yang mereka bawa pulang. 15:12 Mereka mengadakan perjanjian untuk mencari TUHAN, Allah nenek moyang mereka, dengan segenap hati dan jiwa. 15:13 Setiap orang, baik anak-anak atau orang dewasa, baik laki-laki atau perempuan, yang tidak mencari TUHAN, Allah Israel, harus dihukum mati. 15:14 Mereka bersumpah setia kepada TUHAN dengan suara yang nyaring, dengan sorak-sorai dan dengan tiupan nafiri dan sangkakala. 15:15 Seluruh Yehuda bersukaria atas sumpah itu, karena dengan segenap hati mereka bersumpah setia dan dengan kehendak yang bulat mereka mencari TUHAN. TUHAN berkenan ditemui oleh mereka dan mengaruniakan keamanan kepada mereka di segala penjuru. 15:16 Bahkan raja Asa memecat Maakha, neneknya, dari pangkat ibu suri, karena neneknya itu membuat patung Asyera yang keji. Asa merobohkan patung yang keji itu, menumbuknya sampai halus dan membakarnya di lembah Kidron. 15:17 Sekalipun bukit-bukit pengorbanan tidak dijauhkan dari Israel, namun hati Asa tulus ikhlas sepanjang umurnya. 15:18 Ia membawa persembahan-persembahan kudus ayahnya dan persembahan-persembahan kudusnya sendiri ke rumah Allah, yakni emas dan perak serta barang-barang lain. 15:19 Tidak ada perang sampai pada tahun ketiga puluh lima pemerintahan Asa.

15:1 Now the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded.
15:2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him: "Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD [is] with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.
15:3 "For a long time Israel [has been] without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law;
15:4 "but when in their trouble they turned to the LORD God of Israel, and sought Him, He was found by them.
15:5 "And in those times [there was] no peace to the one who went out, nor to the one who came in, but great turmoil [was] on all the inhabitants of the lands.
15:6 "So nation was destroyed by nation, and city by city, for God troubled them with every adversity.
15:7 "But you, be strong and do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded!"
15:8 And when Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and removed the abominable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities which he had taken in the mountains of Ephraim; and he restored the altar of the LORD that [was] before the vestibule of the LORD.
15:9 Then he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and those who dwelt with them from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon, for they came over to him in great numbers from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
15:10 So they gathered together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.
15:11 And they offered to the LORD at that time seven hundred bulls and seven thousand sheep from the spoil they had brought.
15:12 Then they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;
15:13 and whoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
15:14 Then they took an oath before the LORD with a loud voice, with shouting and trumpets and rams' horns.
15:15 And all Judah rejoiced at the oath, for they had sworn with all their heart and sought Him with all their soul; and He was found by them, and the LORD gave them rest all around.
15:16 Also he removed Maachah, the mother of Asa the king, from [being] queen mother, because she had made an obscene image of Asherah; and Asa cut down her obscene image, then crushed and burned [it] by the Brook Kidron.
15:17 But the high places were not removed from Israel. Nevertheless the heart of Asa was loyal all his days.
15:18 He also brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated and that he himself had dedicated: silver and gold and utensils.
15:19 And there was no war until the thirtyfifth year of the reign of Asa.
