Pengintai-pengintai di Yerikho
2:1 Yosua bin Nun dengan diam-diam melepas dari Sitim dua orang pengintai, katanya: "Pergilah, amat-amatilah negeri itu dan kota Yerikho." Maka pergilah mereka dan sampailah mereka ke rumah seorang perempuan sundal, yang bernama Rahab, lalu tidur di situ. 2:2 Kemudian diberitahukanlah kepada raja Yerikho, demikian: "Tadi malam ada orang datang ke mari dari orang Israel untuk menyelidik negeri ini." 2:3 Maka raja Yerikho menyuruh orang kepada Rahab, mengatakan: "Bawalah ke luar orang-orang yang datang kepadamu itu, yang telah masuk ke dalam rumahmu, sebab mereka datang untuk menyelidik seluruh negeri ini." 2:4 Tetapi perempuan itu telah membawa dan menyembunyikan kedua orang itu. Berkatalah ia: "Memang, orang-orang itu telah datang kepadaku, tetapi aku tidak tahu dari mana mereka, 2:5 dan ketika pintu gerbang hendak ditutup menjelang malam, maka keluarlah orang-orang itu; aku tidak tahu, ke mana orang-orang itu pergi. Segeralah kejar mereka, tentulah kamu dapat menyusul mereka." 2:6 Tetapi perempuan itu telah menyuruh keduanya naik ke sotoh rumah dan menyembunyikan mereka di bawah timbunan batang rami, yang ditebarkan di atas sotoh itu. 2:7 Maka pergilah orang-orang itu, mengejar mereka ke arah sungai Yordan, ke tempat-tempat penyeberangan, dan ditutuplah pintu gerbang, segera sesudah pengejar-pengejar itu keluar. 2:8 Tetapi sebelum kedua orang itu tidur, naiklah perempuan itu mendapatkan mereka di atas sotoh 2:9 dan berkata kepada orang-orang itu: "Aku tahu, bahwa TUHAN telah memberikan negeri ini kepada kamu dan bahwa kengerian terhadap kamu telah menghinggapi kami dan segala penduduk negeri ini gemetar menghadapi kamu. 2:10 Sebab kami mendengar, bahwa TUHAN telah mengeringkan air Laut Teberau di depan kamu, ketika kamu berjalan keluar dari Mesir, dan apa yang kamu lakukan kepada kedua raja orang Amori yang di seberang sungai Yordan itu, yakni kepada Sihon dan Og, yang telah kamu tumpas. 2:11 Ketika kami mendengar itu, tawarlah hati kami dan jatuhlah semangat setiap orang menghadapi kamu, sebab TUHAN, Allahmu, ialah Allah di langit di atas dan di bumi di bawah. 2:12 Maka sekarang, bersumpahlah kiranya demi TUHAN, bahwa karena aku telah berlaku ramah terhadapmu, kamu juga akan berlaku ramah terhadap kaum keluargaku; dan berikanlah kepadaku suatu tanda yang dapat dipercaya, 2:13 bahwa kamu akan membiarkan hidup ayah dan ibuku, saudara-saudaraku yang laki-laki dan yang perempuan dan semua orang-orang mereka dan bahwa kamu akan menyelamatkan nyawa kami dari maut." 2:14 Lalu jawab kedua orang itu kepadanya: "Nyawa kamilah jaminan bagi kamu, asal jangan kaukabarkan perkara kami ini; apabila TUHAN nanti memberikan negeri ini kepada kami, maka kami akan menunjukkan terima kasih dan setia kami kepadamu." 2:15 Kemudian perempuan itu menurunkan mereka dengan tali melalui jendela, sebab rumahnya itu letaknya pada tembok kota, jadi pada tembok itulah ia diam. 2:16 Berkatalah ia kepada mereka: "Pergilah ke pegunungan, supaya pengejar-pengejar itu jangan menemui kamu, dan bersembunyilah di sana tiga hari lamanya, sampai pengejar-pengejar itu pulang; kemudian bolehlah kamu melanjutkan perjalananmu." 2:17 Kedua orang itu berkata kepadanya: "Kami akan bebas dari sumpah kami ini kepadamu, yang telah kausuruh kami ikrarkan -- 2:18 sesungguhnya, apabila kami memasuki negeri ini, haruslah tali dari benang kirmizi ini kauikatkan pada jendela tempat engkau menurunkan kami, dan ayahmu serta ibumu, saudara-saudaramu serta seluruh kaum keluargamu kaukumpulkan di rumahmu. 2:19 Setiap orang yang keluar nanti dari pintu rumahmu, harus sendiri menanggung akibatnya, kalau darahnya tertumpah, dan kami tidak bersalah; tetapi siapapun juga yang ada di dalam rumahmu, jika ada orang yang menciderainya, kamilah yang menanggung akibat pertumpahan darahnya. 2:20 Tetapi jika engkau mengabarkan perkara kami ini, maka bebaslah kami dari sumpah kepadamu itu, yang telah kausuruh kami ikrarkan." 2:21 Perempuan itupun berkata: "Seperti yang telah kamu katakan, demikianlah akan terjadi." Sesudah itu dilepasnyalah orang-orang itu pergi, maka berangkatlah mereka. Kemudian perempuan itu mengikatkan tali kirmizi itu pada jendela. 2:22 Merekapun pergilah dan tiba di pegunungan. Mereka tinggal di sana tiga hari lamanya, sampai pengejar-pengejar itu pulang. Pengejar-pengejar itu telah mencari di mana-mana sepanjang jalan tanpa menemukan mereka. 2:23 Maka pulanglah kedua orang itu, mereka turun dari pegunungan, lalu menyeberang dan sampai kepada Yosua bin Nun, kemudian mereka ceritakan segala pengalaman mereka. 2:24 Kata mereka kepada Yosua: "TUHAN telah menyerahkan seluruh negeri ini ke dalam tangan kita, bahkan seluruh penduduk negeri itu gemetar menghadapi kita."

2:1 Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho." So they went, and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab, and lodged there.
2:2 And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, "Behold, men have come here tonight from the children of Israel to search out the country."
2:3 So the king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, "Bring out the men who have come to you, who have entered your house, for they have come to search out all the country."
2:4 Then the woman took the two men and hid them. So she said, "Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they [were] from.
2:5 "And it happened as the gate was being shut, when it was dark, that the men went out. Where the men went I do not know; pursue them quickly, for you may overtake them."
2:6 (But she had brought them up to the roof and hidden them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order on the roof.)
2:7 Then the men pursued them by the road to the Jordan, to the fords. And as soon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate.
2:8 Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof,
2:9 and said to the men: "I know that the LORD has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you.
2:10 "For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who [were] on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed.
2:11 "And as soon as we heard [these things], our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the LORD your God, He [is] God in heaven above and on earth beneath.
2:12 "Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the LORD, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father's house, and give me a true token,
2:13 "and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death."
2:14 So the men answered her, "Our lives for yours, if none of you tell this business of ours. And it shall be, when the LORD has given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you."
2:15 Then she let them down by a rope through the window, for her house [was] on the city wall; she dwelt on the wall.
2:16 And she said to them, "Get to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you. Hide there three days, until the pursuers have returned. Afterward you may go your way."
2:17 So the men said to her: "We [will be] blameless of this oath of yours which you have made us swear,
2:18 "unless, [when] we come into the land, you bind this line of scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you bring your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father's household to your own home.
2:19 "So it shall be [that] whoever goes outside the doors of your house into the street, his blood [shall be] on his own head, and we [will be] guiltless. And whoever is with you in the house, his blood [shall be] on our head if a hand is laid on him.
2:20 "And if you tell this business of ours, then we will be free from your oath which you made us swear."
2:21 Then she said, "According to your words, so [be] it." And she sent them away, and they departed. And she bound the scarlet cord in the window.
2:22 They departed and went to the mountain, and stayed there three days until the pursuers returned. The pursuers sought [them] all along the way, but did not find [them].
2:23 So the two men returned, descended from the mountain, and crossed over; and they came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all that had befallen them.
2:24 And they said to Joshua, "Truly the LORD has delivered all the land into our hands, for indeed all the inhabitants of the country are fainthearted because of us."
